Bought at Belen Jesuit Tombola 2014

February 12, 2014 in Cuban coffee, My house by MG

Last Friday I told you that I was attending the Belen Jesuit Tombola the following day. Yes, this last weekend was not an errand running/house chores type of weekend.  I couldn’t miss out on all the fun.

I really don’t want to go into all the food I consumed since it is sort of embarrassing.  I had lots and lots of food; Sara and Tito can attest to that. But the reason for this post is to show you what I bought at the Belen Jesuit Tombola (besides the food obviously!!!!).  I ended up buying the espresso cup set you see below which has a mamey theme.  The set is adorable and perfect to serve Cuban coffee.   I really did not need another espresso cup set (remember the illy set I bought late last year?), but it was for the school fund-raising….that is my excuse.

but… what is Belen Jesuit Tombola?

So, you are reading this and after seeing the espresso cup set, you are probably asking yourself, what the heck is Belen Jesuit Tombola and what is the fund-raising for?  Well, in case you are asking the question, I’ll tell you just a bit about the school first.  Belen Jesuit Preparatory School is an all-boys school that was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  After the Castro regime confiscated the school property and expelled the Jesuit faculty in 1961, the school was re-opened in Miami that same year.  Yes, the school has been in Miami since 1961.  And today, 160 years after it was founded, it sits on a beautiful 30 acre campus and has a student body of 1,500 and grades 6th to 12th.

And Tombola is the one of the fund-raising events that the school runs to support the Belen Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for children that cannot afford a full tuition at the school.  This is the school that  my son attended from 7th to 12th grade.  I love this school so much that it has been four years since he graduated and I am still going back to Tombola. I am proud to be part of the Belen family.

If you are still a little curious about Belen Jesuit and its Tombola, just click here to see the photos of the 2014 Belen Jesuit Tombola.  These are not my photos.  These are photos that the school posted and unfortunately (for me) I am not in any of them.
