Organizing My Closet
January 21, 2014 in My house by MG
So, it was another glamorous weekend. I pulled weeds and started organizing my closet. Getting my closet organized was in my list of chores. The problem is that it has been in my list of chores for months now and every weekend I come up with a great excuse and end up postponing it.
I confess that I rather pull weeds that organize any closet. However, it got to the point where I could not find anything and I could not postpone it any longer. I decided to break the task in different steps in order to make it more bearable. So the first step was to organize the jewelry section.
My closet is basically just an IKEA PAX system with Komplement interior organizers. As you will see in the photos, it was major chaos. Here you can see the mess before I got started. If you look carefully at the photo below, you realize that it became more than the jewelry drawer. It became the dumping grounds for everything else. An example? Check out the orange maracas which were a souvenir from some event my son participated while in middle school. Yes, he is in college now and those maracas have been in different parts of the house for several years now. I really don’t want to throw them out but have not found a permanent home for them.
So, I started by getting a work table inside the closet and just emptying on the table all the contents of the jewelry drawer. I did not photograph the trash can that was next to the table. I don’t need to tell you that there was more garbage inside the drawer than actual jewelry. I am so embarrassed.
I also took out the Komplement drawer organizer out of the drawer. I cleaned it with a damp towel.
Then once the drawer was empty, I also gave it a good cleaning with a damp towel.
I put back the Komplement organizer after the inside of the drawer was clean and dry.
Then started putting everything back in the drawer, one at a time. I wanted the things I use the most in front. So obviously, the corner belongs to my Tiffany silver bracelet, which is my favorite and which I wear almost every day. The bracelet spends more time on me than inside my closet.
So I continued putting all my jewelry back in the drawer.
Continued…changed things around a little bit…
And then, I was finished putting everything that needed to be back inside the drawer. You can see that I do not own much jewelry.
And finally, I was left with the maracas, lots of change and a few other things. Some of the coins were not even US coins. Some were game coins. So I put most of the change in my purse to take to my office. That change is my espresso emergency fund. And the maracas? Back to my son’s room. He went back to school; so the maracas can live on his dresser for now.
That is all I did in my closet this weekend. The rest is for another day and another post. Anyway, it is time for me to go to bed. Sorry I prepared this post so late tonight, but it was a long workday for me today. Good night!
