Red Planter Project

April 9, 2014 in My house by MG

On March 1, I decided to give a little color to the two clay Mexican planters that frame my front door.  I would call it…impulse painting.  So, I painted the planters red…what other color is there?

The red planter project happened so fast that when I was in the midst of priming the planters, I realized I had not taken a photo of the planters in their original state.   I am so bad at photographing this before/after projects.  But no biggie!  It was a simple project; I guess anyone can figure out what they looked like before.

So, I started by giving the planters a coat of Zinsser primer. You can tell that I did a really bad job with the primer. And I have to admit that I didn’t wash the planters either.  This Zinsser primer is very forgiving. I didn’t even take a photo of the primer can, but since it is the same primer I have used in previous posts, I basically just borrowed a photo from another post.  I want you all to see which primer I used.

After about an hour, I applied a coat of the red spray paint.  I waited about half an hour before applying a second coat.  And then Voilà! They are perfect.

To tell you the truth, I am not even sure how long this red planters are going to stay red.  I didn’t paint the inside of the planters, so it means that the humidity and dirt from inside the planters are probably going to make the paint peel.  Oh well!  I am not worried; I will just paint them again.

Happy Wednesday to you all!
